I'm a former Marine and retired McDonnell Douglas/Boeing engineer. I inherited an interest in photography from my grandfather and an interest in hiking from the Marines. I used an Olympus 35RC Rangefinder on hikes from 1979 until I began using digital cameras. I was drawn to Olympus initially because they made a small camera suitable for hiking. That is still true insofar as my E-420, E-500, E-520, and E-600 are concerned. Also, I've acquired a couple of their even smaller Pen cameras. If the weather gets a bit rough I'll take the more rugged and weatherproofed E-1 or E-3. More often, recently, I've been using my Pentax, K-7, K-5, and K-5iis which also have reputations for ruggedness.
